Beetles (Coleoptera) are one of th emost diversificated orders of insects. It includes more than 400 000 described species, subdivided in more than 160 families (see list), which is about 40% of all described species of insects and about 20% of all described species. While they are still discovered new species. In the Czech Republic has reported the presence of about 6000 kinds, representing about 110 families.

Beetles are insects with a perfect transformation, ie their life cycle are created from eggs, larvae, pupae and adults. There are species that are caring for their eggs (they build shelter and food for them), as a Nicrophorus vespillo, others simply lay their eggs freely and more of them do not care, such as Colorado beetle (Leptinotarsa decemlineata). Generally speaking, the kinds of caring for offspring put significantly less eggs than those that place them freely and don't care of them.

The order includes both types in terms of human benefit, such as predatory species dosposing dangerous pests (eg. a ladybird (Coccinella septempunctata)) or types necrophagous help quickly remove carcasses (including the already mentioned Nicrophorus) and species that cause significant human problems, such as are dangerous pests in agriculture (eg corn coward (Diabrotica virgifera) and Colorado beetle already mentioned).
