Elateroidea is a large superfamily of beetles. It contains the familiar click beetles, fireflies, and soldier beetles and their relatives.
Certain groups of families within each superfamily are closely related. For example, Elateridae have close ties to Anischiidae, Cerophytidae, Eucnemidae and Throscidae (some of these beetles "click" elater). Likewise Lampyridae (Lampyridae) are very close relatives Drilidae, Omalisidae, Phengodidae (which includes Telegeusidae) and the doubtfully distinct Rhagophthalmidae, members of these families are also bioluminescent, at least in the larval stage. This group of families also includes many species whose females are larviform, although this is known from a few other families in the superfamily.
